The Bayview Community Association Letter of Recommendation

The Bayview Community Association very much appreciates the recommendation from Recreation & Parks as a site for the Family Music Jam & Movie Festival in the Park. Over the summer, one event was held per month with a FREE music jam session during the afternoon and family friendly feature film in the evening.

Mr. Lurenda Featherstone, director of the project, did a fantastic job organizing and hosting all three of the events over the summer. Along with the concerts and movies, Mr. Featherstone’s family offered food and refreshments for the neighbors and participants in the event. The jamming musicians played terrific tunes including jazz, some hip hop and even a pan flute. The evenings provided three good movies -Puss N Boots, Up. and Happy Feet 2.

I received numerous comments from neighbors who aftended, and those who live nearby and all were positive expressions of appreciation for the hard work that was put into making these events possible. The Featherstone staff not only cleaned up after the event, they arrived early in the day and cleaned the park of debris and glass.

The Bayview Community Association was happy to provide them use of the bathroom facilities at the Joseph Lee Field House. as the staff (Mr. Featherstone’s family) monitored those entering and leaving the building to ensure that no vandalism or theft occurred.

We hope that Mr. Featherstone will consider this project for Summer 2013 with the support of Baltimore Ciry Recreation & Parks. The Bayview Community is hoping to form a committee of community members to assist with the planning and preparation. These events were a great success, well attended by the neighborhood, and we look forward to working with Mr. Featherstone again!

Very Truly Yours

Elaine Welkie.

Bayview’s Movies in the Park

Bayview’s Movies in the Park

Our last of a series of three movies, was shown at the Joseph Lee Park on August 18, with another great turnout from the community. The neighborhood enjoyed three movies over the summer, along with some very good music provided by area bands and musicians who gave their time to provide FREE entertainment.
The Family Music Jam & Movie Festival in the Park, was presented by Mr. Lurenda Featherstone, a Baltimore musician. As a musician and music teacher, he wanted to encourage  talented young people and musicians to share their talents with the community, by offering a stage and sound system, drums and other musical equipment . Mr. Featherstone and his family organized these events, working from the afternoon to very early hours of the morning, taking care of every detail.
Our thanks to Featherstone Music Instruction and our sponsors SOUNDBOXX, Baltimore City Recreation & Parks, Patterson High School and the Bayview Community Association for their support of The Family Music Jam & Movie Festival in the Park.
We were also fortunate to receive a block grant from Southeast CDC to assist with the costs associated with the August 18th day and evening of activities.
We look forward to working with Mr. Featherstone for another summer season of entertainment.
